ABC Action News – Internet Phone Hacker Scam
A new ring of telemarketing computer scams have accounted for some victims paying thousands of dollars for bogus “fixes” remotely performed on your PC. ABC Action News reporter Jackie Callaway had Pinellas Computers set up a perfectly working computer, only to have the phone “repair representative” quote $300 to fix problems that did not exist.
And to top it off, the company prompts you to send them your credit card information via an unsecure notepad file, rather than through a secure website portal. Ryan Malize plays the role of a potential victim to show just how easily consumers may be swindled. Check out the video interview above.
